3 Healthy Ways to Help Manage Your Weight | AFC Urgent Care Memphis

Many times we are focused on how to lose weight. But when you reach your weight-loss goal, what next?

Our team at AFC Urgent Care Memphis wants to offer some advice on how to not only reach, but also maintain a healthy weight.

Encourage Weight Loss and Maintain a Healthy Weight

Let’s take a look at some ways you can start reaching your weight-loss goals!

First, consider including high-intensity interval training, or HIIT, in your exercise routine. During these intervals, you are able to both warm up and cool down during a workout.

Studies have shown that a HIIT workout is just as effective (if not more effective) than a regular, aerobic workout, particularly for middle-aged adults.

In addition, HIIT can help to improve blood glucose numbers and aerobic capacity in a short amount of time, which makes it the perfect workout routine to implement if you are moving from “couch to fitness.”

For example, you can start by walking 30 seconds and then sprinting for 30 seconds. Repeat 8–10 times.

Second, you’ve heard it before and we are going to say it again. You need to reduce the number of processed foods in your diet. Not only is this a great way to reduce calorie intake, but you are also making room for healthier foods, such as lean protein, fruits and vegetables, to be a part of your daily diet.

Finally, you also want to reduce your portion sizes and stay hydrated. Reducing portion sizes is actually one of the best (and easiest) ways to consume fewer calories. Even just eating off a smaller plate can help you reduce your portion size at each meal.

In addition, staying hydrated can help you curb cravings and improve your overall health and wellbeing. How much water you need to stay hydrated will vary depending on factors such as your age, gender and activity level, but aim to sip water throughout the day.
