Get Back Into Back-to-School Mode With These Tips
Are you having a hard time finding your way back into back-to-school mode? You’re not alone. Here are some tips to helping make these next few months more bearable for you and the kids.
It Starts in the Home
Feeling the craziness of the kids back at school? It may be because of the disorganization going on at home. The key to success (and less stress) is organization.
Begin with de-cluttering. In other words, out with the old and in with the new. Make it a weekly ritual. For example, every Sunday with your kids, help them clean out their backpacks and/or binders and get rid of extra papers and items they no longer need. Also, any pencils and pens should be placed back in the pouch instead of at the bottom of the backpack. You want to treat each week as if it is the first day back at school—when you’re prepared the most with what you need.
Everyone needs their own space, including kids. Create a place where your kids can place their school items (such as backpack, coat, etc.) when they get home, as well as where they can complete their homework. The space should be technology-free. Music playing in the background is fine, but television, smartphone, etc., should be left outside of the “space” until homework is complete. Now, this does not mean a tablet or computer cannot be used, but must be for school-work only, which means no Facebook or web-surfing unless it is for studies.
Set up a weekly or monthly calendar that’s visible to everyone in the family. This allows everyone to see what is going on for the day and/or week—and what they can expect, which is a great in aiming for success!
