Start Healthy Eating Habits Today
In life, food is fuel. Not only does our food choices affect our mood and energy levels, making the right food choices can also help reduce our risk of disease, aid in weight loss and improve our longevity!
Take a look at some ways you can start making healthy eating a habit in your household.
First, remove your current dinner set from the table. Did you know that the size of your plate can actually play a role in how much you eat?
When you use a big plate, you tend to put more food on the plate—and eat it all. But if you use smaller plates, you don’t need to use as much food to fill your plate, which can help you eat more moderately.
Second, make healthy snacks readily available. When we get hungry in between meals, the main reason most of us go for the processed foods like chips and cookies is because they are right there—ready to eat.
That’s why it’s important to put healthy food options in plain sight and easy to grab on the go! Put whole fruits, single-serving packets of nuts and air-popped popcorn, and other healthy snacks on the counter and ready to grab.
Finally, make dinner time an unplug zone. Turn the TV off and put the smartphones away. Did you know that eating while watching TV or reading can make you more likely to eat more?
Instead of eating while doing something else, be more mindful as you eat and chat as a family. It can be a great opportunity to squeeze in some quality family time!
