How Do I Know If It's COVID-19, Allergies or a Cold?

What Are the Symptoms of COVID-19?
Doctors and scientists say that having a fever is the biggest indicator about what illness you have. A report from the World Health Organization (WHO) that examined cases in China in February 2020 shed more light on this information.
The WHO’s report found that around 88% of COVID-19 patients had a fever and 68% had a dry cough. Additional tell-tale symptoms of coronavirus include shortness of breath, diarrhea and loss of taste. It’s rare that a fever or diarrhea would be associated with a cold or allergies.
Other Symptoms of COVID-19
- Fatigue
- Muscle or body aches
- Nausea or vomiting
- Cough
How Do I Tell If It’s a Cold or Allergies?
Now that we’re getting into fall allergy season, it can be hard to tell the difference between a common cold and those pesky allergies.
Although sneezing is a symptom shared by both a cold and allergies, scientists say that itchy eyes and clear, thin mucus indicate that you probably have allergies rather than a cold. It’s common to have thick, bright yellow/greenish mucus if you’ve contracted a cold.
Other Symptoms of a Cold
- Sore throat
- Stuffy nose
- Mild body aches or slight headache
