How's the Back-to-School Routine Going? | AFC Urgent Care Memphis

The team at AFC Urgent Care Memphis understands how hard the transition can be going from an easy, laid-back summer break to the busy, hectic back-to-school schedule. Fortunately, even if your routine is off to a rough start, there are still easy ways to help get your back-to-school routine going on the right path!

Establish a New Routine

First, a good day starts with a good night’s sleep. Therefore, make sure your children (and even you!) are going to bed at a decent hour each night to ensure you’re getting enough sleep to conquer the day ahead. Without the proper amount of sleep, your body and brain can feel sluggish. And, especially when school is in session, your children need their brains working to full capacity to be sure they are retaining everything they learned for the day. As a result, a healthy bedtime is needed for a healthy day!

Second, make life as less-crazy as possible. While it will always be something, control what you can. This means go ahead and prepare as much as you can the night before instead of the morning of. Make lunches, ensure everything is in the backpacks (i.e., signed school forms, homework, etc.), and clothes laid out for the morning. While it might still be a little crazy in the morning if you happened to sleep through your alarm, these steps can help make for an easier start to your day—even if chaos does occur.

Finally, try to make a calendar of the day and week’s activities. Routines are important for everyone, but especially children. By seeing a calendar in front of them, they can see what is expected and/or happening for the day. List times for school, sports, homework, dinner, brushing teeth, preparing for the next day, etc. This will help keep the entire family on schedule, and boost your chances of having a successful school week!
