Manage Your Diabetes
While many people are focused on making 2017 the best year yet, others are aiming to keep their health a top priority. For example, those diagnosed with diabetes are making the resolution to get their condition under control!
Be on Top of Your Diabetes Game
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, more than 29 million Americans have diabetes. Chances are you or someone you know is tackling the disease. As a result, it’s important to be aware of things you can do to either help yourself or someone you know manage the condition.
First, keep a journal related to the condition, and write everything down. And we mean everything. From what you eat and when to what your blood sugar readings are throughout the day and how much you exercise. You also want to include when you took your medication and how many hours of sleep you get each night.
Don’t forget to also note how you’re feeling throughout the day—happy, healthy, sad, depressed and so on. Seeing your emotions in conjunction with your blood sugar levels can help your doctor make informed decisions about your health.
Then, at regular intervals, review your journal with a physician to see if your treatment plan needs to be changed in any way. Does your medication not seem to be working effectively? It may need adjustment. Do you not exercise as much as you thought? Try adding a 10-minute walk to your daily routine. Are you realizing you eat out a lot? Aim to cook most meals at home.
