When you spend quality time with your family, what activity does that involve? Eating a meal? Watching a movie? Playing a video game? While it’s important to make time for family, it’s also vital to create time for health—so why not put the two together for a winning combination?

Involve Your Health in Family Time

Fitness is ageless. Whether you are 5-years-old or 85 years of age, health is crucial in helping to prevent diseases and other serious medical conditions. Fortunately, as a parent, you hold the key to your children’s health, especially while they are young. Did you know that parents who are physically active are more likely to have children who establish healthy habits, as well? Therefore, it’s important for you to set the good, healthy example within your family.

Instead of planning a night of going out to eat, why not set up an outdoor activity, such as swimming in the summer or hiking in the spring? Fall is not too far away. How about planning a bike ride to see the changing leaves on the trees?

You could also try a class together, like yoga, Pilates or spinning! If you just had a baby, check out some exercise moves you can do while pushing a stroller through the park or around the neighborhood.

Believe it or not, chores also can burn calories. Dance together as a family while folding and putting away laundry. Sing while taking the dog for a walk! The sky’s the limit when making chores around the house fun.
