Stay Focused at Work in the Summer

We have all been guilty of losing focus before, especially during the summer months. While we are stuck indoors at a desk during most of the day, we can find ourselves sometimes drifting off at the thought of sitting on the beach, reading a good book, and hearing the waves in the background. However, our lack of concentration can also be worsened when we are sick, such as with seasonal allergies. Not matter what the reason may be that you find yourself not as focused as usual, there are things you can to do help regain your concentration.

Improve Your Concentration

One reason we become distracted easily at work is because we are stressing about all the projects we have in front of us. As a result, we become overwhelmed. Yet, if we make a list and prioritize our projects, then we can tackle—and focus on—one project at a time.

In addition, you want to set aside time in your day for emails and phone calls. If you keep looking at your email every 10 seconds, or continually get interrupted by phone calls, it can be hard to give 100 percent of your concentration to the project in front of you. Therefore, give yourself an allotted amount of time each hour (or less frequently if possible) to look at emails and make phone calls—and then do not look again until the time has arrived.

If your project seems like too much, don’t hesitate to separate it into different parts and, then, complete each part piece by piece until the project is done! This will help you to concentrate better, feel less stressed, and, therefore, make healthier choices during the day—since your stress is not taking you to the unhealthy vending machine!
